‘Singer-Songwrite Rory Jones struggles to balance surviving under capitalism with his passion for music.’

Hard To Be A Capitalist is a surrealist music video starring Belfast-based musician Rory Jones, living rough in the forest and falling behind in his office work. He avoids his sadness through ‘retail therapy’ until his humble life comes crashing down around him.

Inspired by the classic pantomime style, the video acts as a pastiche to musical theatre, mimicking the framing of a stage play and incorporating similar low-budget, high-concept Mise-En-Scene. HTBAC is an over-the-top visual comedy that makes light of the depressive working world.

It was funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Creative Individuals COVID Recovery Scheme, and released along with the EP in 2022. It is publicly available on YouTube.
